Dr. Richard H. Kim is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Southeastern Minnesota Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He provides comprehensive surgical care in Mankato, with clinical interests that include dentoalveolar surgery, dental implant surgery, and anesthesia.
Dental and Medical Education
Dr. Kim earned his Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Chicago. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the former Northwestern University Dental School.
Dr. Kim subsequently earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from what is now known as the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency
Dr. Kim completed a comprehensive six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through Mayo Clinic. His advanced training also included a one-year general surgery residency.
This hospital-based education prepared him to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the mouth, teeth, jaws, face, and related structures while considering each patient’s dental and overall health.
Oral Surgery Experience
After completing his residency at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Kim provided oral and maxillofacial surgery care in Southern Minnesota for more than 15 years, primarily in Mankato. After practicing briefly in Chicago, he returned to Minnesota and joined Southeastern Minnesota Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Kim currently provides care through the practice’s Mankato office.

Humanitarian and Volunteer Service
Dr. Kim is committed to improving access to dental and surgical care through humanitarian service. After Ukraine’s National Military Medical Clinical Center requested supplies for soldiers and civilians injured during the war, Dr. Kim asked U.S. Oral Surgery Management to assist. Personal Interests
