Dr. Dietrich R. Lawrenz is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Southeastern Minnesota Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He provides surgical care for patients from Mankato, Rochester, Owatonna, and surrounding communities, with a clinical focus on dental implants, full-arch reconstruction, grafting procedures, dentoalveolar surgery, and pre-prosthetic surgery.

Dental and Medical Education

Dr. Lawrenz attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with High Distinction.

Following dental school, Dr. Lawrenz earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from what is now known as McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He also completed a general surgery internship and advanced oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training through UTHealth Houston.

Oral Surgery Experience

Dr. Lawrenz has more than 25 years of experience performing complex oral and maxillofacial surgery. His professional background includes private-practice and hospital-based surgical care, as well as service on multidisciplinary cleft lip and palate teams associated with the University of Minnesota and Children’s Minnesota.

His experience with multidisciplinary cleft care has involved collaboration with specialists from multiple healthcare disciplines to address the functional and developmental needs of patients with cleft and craniofacial conditions.

Dr. Lawrenz has extensive experience in corrective jaw surgery and procedures related to cleft lip and palate. His current clinical interests include:

• Full-arch dental implant reconstruction, including All-on-4 and All-on-X treatment

Dr. Lawrenz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Dr. Lawrenz has authored multiple articles published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His published work includes topics involving maxillofacial infections and the management of systemic health conditions in oral surgery patients.

He has also shared his surgical knowledge through lectures at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Personal Interests

Outside the practice, Dr. Lawrenz enjoys playing golf and pickleball and traveling.
