Meet Dr. Madson


Dr. Andrew Q. Madson received a B.A. in Chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.  He then attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.  Upon completion of his dental degree, Dr. Madson entered the United States Air Force (USAF) through which he began a residency in Advanced General Dentistry (AEGD).  After practicing for a year as general dentist at Kelly Air Field, Texas, Dr. Madson completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Employment History:

Dr. Madson has served over ten years active duty in the United States Air Force.  His first assignment as an oral surgeon was Royal Air Force Base Lakenheath, England.  In addition to working on the joint American/British Air Base, he worked in the United Kingdom’s National Health System at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, England. 

Dr. Madson’s final assignment with the USAF was at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.  While there he was appointed Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services Health Science University, teaching his specialty to general dentistry residents. 

During his service to our country, Dr. Madson provided full scope care to soldiers and their families.  His surgical experience in the USAF was concentrated in orthognathic, implant, trauma, TMJ, and cosmetic/reconstructive surgery. Over the course of his Air Force career, Dr. Madson received numerous military decorations including a Meritorious Service Medal.  He separated from the United States Air Force at the rank of Major.

Clinical Interests:

Dr. Madson practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with interests in orthognathic surgery, implant reconstruction, dentoalveolar surgery, anesthesia, and caring for patients with facial cleft deformities.

Dr. Madson has lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of topics including tissue engineering, implant reconstruction, pathology, and cosmetic surgery.  He has also published professional journal articles on research concerning wartime facial injuries, management of combat facial burns, and oral pathology.

Dr. Madson and his wife, Amy, are both from Le Sueur, MN.  They now live in Rochester and have two sons who keep them busy.

Dr. Madson enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, music, fitness, outdoor activities and involvement in their church congregation.
