Meet Dr. Joel C. Michelson

Southeastern Minnesota Oral Surgeon, Dr. Joel Michelson

Education:

Dr. Michelson graduated from the University of Colorado in Denver and received his dental training at the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry, graduating Cum Laude, first in his class. He completed his General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver, Colorado the following year. On the advice of his wife, Susan, a Minnesota native, he moved to St. Paul for his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry, completing his training.

Employment History:

Dr. Michelson joined Southeastern Minnesota Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates in June of 1990 and works in our Rochester office.

Clinical Interests:

Dr. Michelsons clinical interests include wisdom teeth extractions, anesthesia, implant reconstruction, pre-prosthetic procedures and treatment of skeletal/facial jaw deformities.

Affiliations:

Dr. Michelson received his board certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, the Southeastern Minnesota District Dental Society, the Zumbro Valley Dental Society, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association having served these organizations in many capacities as both a board member and officer including associate editor of Northwest Dentistry for eight years. He has lectured on a variety of professionally related topics both locally and internationally including in Kenya, Thailand and Jordan as well as serving as a long time volunteer at the Good Samaritan Dental Clinic in Rochester and has gone on more than fifteen overseas dental mission trips.

Family:

Dr. Michelson is married to Susan, and they have six children

Hobbies & Interests:

Dr. Michelson is actively involved in coaching soccer, spectating at various sports events and recitals, and chauffeuring. In his free time he enjoys music, swimming, biking, tennis, reading theology and traveling.
